CoinWorld News, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed on Tuesday to end the quarterly reporting requirement for companies traded in the U.S., allowing them to switch to semi-annual reports. Trump first proposed this idea during his first term and re-emphasized it as a government priority in September last year. SEC Chairman Gary Gensler stated in a release, "The rigidity of SEC rules prevents companies and their investors from determining the most appropriate mid-term reporting frequency that suits their business needs and investor interests." The move has received support from many companies and investment banks such as JPMorgan Chase, which believe that quarterly reports impose a heavy and costly burden on businesses, foster short-termism, and sacrifice long-term planning, factors that have contributed to the sharp decline in the number of U.S. listed companies over the past decade.
