Gate News message, April 22 — Volkswagen announced on April 21 in Beijing that it will integrate AI agents into new vehicles for the Chinese market starting from the second half of 2026, utilizing a China-exclusive electronic architecture.
The AI system, developed in partnership with Chinese automotive chipmaker Horizon Robotics, offers capabilities beyond standard voice assistants. According to Ralf Brandstaetter, Volkswagen China’s chief executive, the system can execute complex tasks such as locating restaurants, making reservations, providing navigation, and arranging parking. The move reflects the German automaker’s effort to compete with Chinese EV makers on software innovation and address competitive pricing pressures.
Volkswagen plans to launch over 20 new electrified vehicle models in China and 50 new models globally by 2030, as part of its broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the world’s largest EV market.
