Major e-commerce platforms are increasingly deploying AI-powered shopping assistants, but a growing number of online merchants are pushing back hard. The core issue? Their website data is being harvested without consent or compensation.

When a tech giant's AI scrapes product information, pricing, and customer data from independent retailers, it raises uncomfortable questions: Who owns this data? Should merchants have a say in how their business information is used? These retailers argue they didn't sign up for their competitive advantage to be fed into someone else's recommendation algorithms.

This tension highlights a larger problem in today's internet landscape. Centralized platforms unilaterally decide how user and merchant data flows through their systems. There's no transparency, no negotiation, no shared benefit. For many in the Web3 space, this exact scenario demonstrates why decentralized alternatives matter—where data ownership remains with creators and businesses, and usage rights are clearly defined through smart contracts.

The backlash is a reminder that the digital economy's foundation—data—has become increasingly contentious. As AI capabilities expand, so does the urgency around establishing clearer rules about data rights and fair compensation.

The big platform is back with this set again, freeloading data and acting so confident... Why is no one regulating them?

That's why Web3 must eliminate these vampire platforms. --- Damn, big tech companies, why do they get to freeload on our data? Where's the promised win-win? --- Data should indeed be on the blockchain, returning ownership to the true owners. --- Another absurdity of centralized platforms, luckily we still have DAOs. --- How long have small businesses been exploited? Why is it only now that someone is fighting back?

That's why I've always said Web3 has to get going, or small businesses will forever be wiped out.

That's why I've been advocating for on-chain data ownership all along. Centralized platforms are just vampires.

The platform is aggressively consuming data, and small merchants have no say at all. This is the problem Web3 aims to solve.

That's why Web3 exists—centralized platforms are leeching too much, and small businesses' data is being freeloaded.

Big platforms eat data without paying, this issue should have been called out long ago --- It's the same old trick again, centralized platforms call the shots, small merchants can only be exploited --- Web3 really should take off, if data rights aren't resolved, big companies will always play games --- Basically, they don't want to pay but want to use your data, this logic is truly incredible --- Zero transparency, zero compensation, zero agreements... no wonder people are starting to resist --- Data ownership is indeed a pain point across the entire internet --- Can putting smart contracts into use here solve the problem? I'm a bit hopeful --- Merchants are being drained completely, no wonder everyone wants to switch to on-chain platforms --- Squeezing and advising at the same time, I'm tired of this process --- Lack of data rights protection, the stronger AI gets, the more it frustrates small merchants
