According to Yonhap News Agency, in the event of an oil supply crisis becoming a reality, the South Korean government on the afternoon of the 18th raised the resource security crisis alert from Level 1 “Attention” to Level 2 “Caution.” After considering the severity of the crisis and its potential impact on citizens’ lives and the national economy, the government decided to activate the resource security crisis alert. The government will further expand oil supplies and tighten demand control measures. Regarding supply, this week the government will announce specific details about participating in the International Energy Agency’s reserve oil release plan, actively exercise priority purchase rights to acquire international oil reserves, and explore alternative oil import channels that bypass the Strait of Hormuz. On the demand side, the government will collaborate with the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment and other relevant departments to implement mandatory energy-saving measures in the public sector and consider measures such as vehicle restrictions.
