Italian Defense Minister says US and Israel's military strikes against Iran violate international law
Italian Defense Minister Crosetto said in parliament on the 5th that the United States and Israel’s military strikes against Iran violate international law. In answering questions from lawmakers, Crosetto said, “This action is clearly outside the scope of international law.” He said that the conflict began “without the whole world knowing,” adding, “This is not the war we want.” Crosetto said that, given that subsequent developments are unpredictable, he has coordinated with allies and NATO to raise Italy’s national air defense and anti-missile defense systems to the highest level of protection. Regarding whether Italy would allow U.S. military bases in Italy to be used for military operations against Iran, Italy’s Foreign Minister Tajani said in parliament on the same day that Italy has not yet allowed the United States to do so. Earlier that day, Italian Prime Minister Meloni said in an interview, “Italy is not involved in the war, nor does it intend to join it.” (Xinhua)
