Middle Eastern conflict impacts helium supply, South Korea says its stock can last until June

Iran attacked Qatar’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility last week, causing damage to its helium production line, and rebuilding could take several years. As Qatar Energy announced force majeure to customers, helium prices have surged significantly. An industry insider supplying helium to Samsung revealed that Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix currently have about 4 to 6 months of helium stock. A South Korean government official stated that, as the home of some of the world’s largest chip manufacturers (including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix), South Korea currently has enough helium inventory to last through the first half of the year.
