🔥US-Iran Islamabad talks kick off today, with a 15-day window opening


On April 11, representatives from both the US and Iran held the first round of face-to-face talks since a ceasefire was reached at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad, the Pakistani capital. The US delegation was led by Vice President Vance, Presidential Envoy Wittekov, and Trump’s son-in-law Kushner, while the Iranian delegation was led by Speaker Kalibafo. Iran said that the negotiations must be premised on the other side accepting Iran’s preconditions, including a ceasefire in Lebanon and the unfreezing of Iranian assets. The US side, meanwhile, stuck to a hardline position, reaffirming that its red line—Iran stopping uranium enrichment activities—remains unchanged, and demanding that the Strait of Hormuz remain safe and open, with no restrictions. Trump warned ahead of the talks that if the agreement collapses, US forces would resume strikes, and also said that Iran would never be allowed to collect tolls from ships passing in the past.
