Egyptian President and Russian President Talk, Emphasizing Containment of Regional Escalation

On March 31st local time, Egyptian President Sisi had a phone call with Russian President Putin to exchange views on regional and international situations. Both sides agreed that efforts should be made to prevent further escalation of the Middle East situation. According to a statement released by the Egyptian presidency on the same day, Sisi stated during the call that easing regional tensions is very necessary, and Egypt is maintaining coordination with regional partners to continue promoting de-escalation and safeguarding regional security and stability. Sisi said that Russia, with its international influence, can play an important role in bringing about an end to the war. He reiterated that Egypt firmly supports Arab countries’ security and resolutely opposes any actions that infringe on their sovereignty. Putin praised Egypt’s efforts to ease regional tensions and promote regional security, and expressed hope to prevent the current situation from escalating. (CCTV News)
