Just realized a lot of people are struggling with their SASSA status update, especially when it comes to changing banking details and contact info. Been through this myself and it's honestly not as complicated as it seems once you know what to do.

So here's the thing - if you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), you can't just change your banking details online like you might think. You actually have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person, fill out the Payment Method Change Form, and bring your valid ID plus proof of your new bank account. They want a bank statement from the last three months or a letter from your bank. Takes up to 21 working days for them to verify it with the bank, so if you need it sorted for next month's payment, you gotta submit before the 15th. That's the key deadline honestly.

For the SRD R370 grant though, it's different - that one's all online which is way easier. You go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS to your registered number, and you update your banking details right there. Same rule applies though - the account has to be in your name, no joint accounts or anything like that.

About updating your phone number - if you're on SRD, use their contact details portal. Enter your ID and Application ID, put in your new number, they'll send you an OTP to verify. For permanent grants, honestly just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit the office. The online stuff can be glitchy sometimes so direct contact is usually more reliable.

One thing that caught me off guard - make sure whatever new phone number you're using is registered in your name if you're doing the cash send option. Also be careful with those fake websites claiming they can help with SASSA status updates. Stick to the official portal only. Anyone else had issues getting their banking details changed?
