Iran Offers Safe Passage Route Through the Strait of Hormuz via Oman in Negotiations with the US
The Iranian government is reportedly proposing a new solution in negotiations with the United States regarding the ongoing conflict.
According to Reuters, Iran is willing to allow ships to pass freely through the Oman side of the Strait of Hormuz without the risk of attack.
This proposal is part of efforts to de-escalate the conflict that has disrupted global energy distribution, considering the Strait of Hormuz is a vital route for about 20% of the world's oil trade.
The move marks a change in Iran's approach, which previously proposed restricting access and even discussed imposing tariffs on passing ships.
By opening the route on the Oman side, Iran aims to maintain some strategic control while also facilitating international trade.
However, implementation details remain unclear, including whether all ships will have equal access and how on-the-ground monitoring mechanisms will work.
