Bahrain National Oil Company refinery was attacked by Iranian drones, and force majeure has been declared.

Gate News reports that on March 9, according to Reuters witnesses, the Bahrain National Oil Company (Bapco) refinery was emitting thick smoke. The Bahrain government previously announced that the area was damaged due to an Iranian drone attack. The targeted refinery is one of the oldest and most strategically important energy hubs in the Middle East, with Bahrain investing heavily in modernizing the facility. Bapco is as important to Bahrain as Saudi Aramco is to Saudi Arabia. In terms of capacity, the Bapco refinery has a capacity of approximately 405,000 barrels per day. For comparison, Saudi Arabia’s largest refinery, Ras Tanura, has a capacity of about 550,000 barrels per day. Analysts point out that Iran’s strategy remains consistent with that since early last week, aiming to exert higher oil price pressure in hopes that Gulf countries can persuade Trump to make concessions. So far, Bahrain National Oil Company has declared force majeure, indicating an unforeseeable circumstance that prevents contract fulfillment.
