Gate News: On March 11, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics faced staffing shortages for most of the past year due to federal government hiring freezes, which affected the collection of price data and forced the agency to rely more on less accurate estimation methods for some data imputation. In February of this year, 40% of the estimations involved a method called “different-cell imputation,” up from just 9% a year earlier. However, the situation may be improving: the Bureau of Labor Statistics has now posted job openings on its website across multiple regions nationwide to hire personnel responsible for collecting price data.
