On September 19, 2024, Trump visited the famous cryptocurrency-themed bar PubKey Bar in New York and used Bitcoin to buy a hamburger.
Donald Trump's purchase of a hamburger is historically significant because it is the first time ever that a former U.S. president has publicly used any form of cryptocurrency for a purchase.
In the case of Trump, he paid for dozens of hamburgers through Strike, amounting to 998.70 dollars. Strike is one of the most popular applications using the Lightning Network. The bar uses Zaprite on the receiving end to process Bitcoin payments.
PubKey co-founder Drew Armstrong ( confirmed that he indeed sold these hamburgers, with the president even personally distributing them, jokingly calling them "crypto hamburgers." )
