🚨 July 26 Breaking News: 80,000 Dormant BTC Move After 14 Years – Link to MyBitcoin Hack Suspected
In a remarkable development reported today, July 26, Ki Young Ju, founder and CEO of CryptoQuant, revealed via the X platform that 80,000 BTC—untouched for 14 years—have suddenly been moved. According to on-chain data, these coins likely originated from wallets associated with the now-defunct crypto platform MyBitcoin.
These wallets had remained inactive since April 2011. Coincidentally, MyBitcoin was reportedly hacked just a few months later in August 2011, resulting in substantial losses and its eventual bankruptcy. The timing and the origin of the wallets suggest two possibilities: they either belong to the attackers behind the infamous theft or to Tom Williams, the platform’s mysterious founder who vanished from the crypto scene.
Even more intriguing, it appears that Galaxy Digital, the crypto investment firm led by Mike Novogratz, may have acquired this massive BTC stash. However, there's no confirmation yet on whether the firm conducted any forensic investigations to verify the provenance of the coins.
This unexpected move raises serious questions about the traceability of old stolen assets, the legal risks of purchasing dormant crypto, and the long-term implications for market trust and institutional buying.
🕵️♂️ Who really owns these coins? Was this a strategic acquisition or an oversight? The crypto world watches closely.
