What will happen to ASTER?
Today I casually checked the ASTER unlock roadmap, and I was surprised by what I found. Here is a summary for everyone:
16.24 billion has been unlocked as of September 17, 2025.
320 million has been unlocked on October 5, 2025;
0.072727273 billion has been unlocked on October 17, 2025;
A total of 2.0167273 billion has been unlocked.
Future unlocking amount:
200 million will be unlocked on November 10, 2025;
Starting from November 17, 2025, 0.72727273 billion will be unlocked every month until September 17, 2026.
From September 18, 2026, to January 16, 2030, 328,407 pieces will be unlocked daily. The unlocking will then be paused.
On May 17, 2035, 3.856 billion will be unlocked in one go, and the unlocking is complete.
Seeing this data reminds me of Pi, which was launched at the beginning of the year, and it feels like a similar journey. Of course, ASTER is a decentralized trading platform, while Pi is definitely a copycat air coin, so there is still an essential difference between the two.
Let's talk about ASTER again. Even though ASTER generates considerable trading fees and other income every day, and even though the project team has announced that 50% of the repurchased tokens will be burned, the constant influx of supply every month and day is hard to withstand. Moreover, the other 50% of the repurchased tokens will eventually be airdropped again (the official statement is that it is for incentives), isn't this just artificially creating another dam that could break at any time? Where will the price of the coin go? Can the advantages of decentralized platforms withstand the pressure from the unlocked selling?
Knowing that the coin price will decrease as more are unlocked, is it a suitable time to hold coins now? Would it be more appropriate to accumulate coins all at once before the large monthly unlock on September 17, 2026?
Alternatively, is it less risky to open a short position at a high point?
