A while ago, I was chatting with a PhD, and we discussed an interesting topic:
Which race or region has the strongest mathematical ability?
As everyone knows, Indians and Chinese are very proficient, and when Chinese describe their abilities, they also joke about Westerners exchanging coins in stores—after all, most Asian participants excel in math competitions.
However, we later concluded that the truly strong in mathematics are the Westerners; Easterners are more adept at arithmetic. What does this mean?
Given a general arithmetic problem, Easterners tend to have stronger execution ability, but when it comes to reasoning, most Westerners tend to have the advantage. Does this have any significance?
Looking at mathematical modeling, classical and modern foundational theoretical models, they are all developed by the West. And this post ( ( is just stating a fact, with no intent to attack ). That’s also why many core software companies tend to be Western-oriented.
Come to think of it, trading is essentially about fighting against your past self. If you can't accept it or try to understand it from different perspectives, it just proves you haven't taken the first step—just like how you're still laughing at the story of people exchanging coins in stores.
By the way, now everyone uses calculators. Americans won’t bother with a few cents anymore—they just give it to you directly.
