Spain and Denmark Police Arrest Crypto Kidnapping Gang Linked to Málaga Murder

Spanish and Danish police arrested members of a criminal gang linked to the kidnapping and murder of a man in Málaga after attempting to steal his cryptocurrency.

The Attack and Abduction

The Spanish National Police, in a joint operation with Danish police authorities, recently arrested members of a criminal gang responsible for the kidnapping and murder of a man in Málaga over his cryptocurrency. The arrests followed a complaint filed by a woman detailing a violent attack in Mijas, Málaga.

According to a recent report, the woman said she and her partner were attacked by three or four masked individuals armed with firearms. During the assault, the victim tried to flee but was cornered and shot in the leg. The assailants then forced both the man and his partner into a vehicle and drove them to a safe house.

The couple was held captive for several hours while the kidnappers attempted to access their digital wallets. At about midnight, the captors released the woman, but her partner remained missing. After receiving the complaint, a search was launched, and the man’s body was later discovered showing signs of torture.

Police officers launched an intensive investigation that yielded evidence leading to the identification of the perpetrators. The operation resulted in five arrests in Spain, and six houses were searched across Madrid and Málaga. Additionally, four other individuals residing in Denmark were charged in connection with the crime.

Two of those charged are already incarcerated for offenses of a similar nature, suggesting a pattern of cryptocurrency-focused armed robbery and kidnapping, according to the report. The brutal murder occurred just weeks after a Russian couple and the son of a Ukrainian politician reportedly lost their lives in similar circumstances. In both those cases, the victims were tortured before being killed.
