ComEd Rolls Out Major EV Charger Rebate Initiative to Boost Adoption Across Northern Illinois

ComEd has unveiled an ambitious rebate program designed to make EV charging more affordable for residential customers in northern Illinois. The initiative offers homeowners up to $3,750 in rebates to cover the purchase and installation costs of Level 2 chargers, with applications now open for customers who bought or plan to buy chargers starting February 1, 2024.

Program Details and Eligibility

The utility company is committing $5 million to this effort, making funds available on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers living in single-family homes or duplexes qualify for rebate amounts ranging from $2,500 to $3,750, with the final rebate amount capped at the actual installation cost.

A significant portion of the funding—50 percent—is specifically reserved for low-income households and residents of equity-eligible communities as defined by Illinois state guidelines. This targeting approach ensures that customers facing the greatest financial barriers receive the highest rebate amounts, promoting fairer access to EV infrastructure.

Level 2 chargers provide substantial advantages over standard wall outlets, delivering charging speeds 6 to 8 times faster than conventional Level 1 charging. For eligible homeowners, applying is straightforward through ComEd.com/clean.
