Alan Stringer Steps Into Solar Proponent's Chief Operating Officer Role to Scale Renewable Energy Portfolio in Texas

Solar Proponent, an Austin-headquartered utility-scale solar developer targeting the ERCOT market, has appointed Alan Stringer as its new Chief Operating Officer. The move reflects the company’s aggressive expansion plans as it seeks to establish a significant presence in Texas’s energy infrastructure transformation. Stringer brings more than two decades of hands-on experience in the solar sector, having overseen the development and construction of over eight gigawatts of solar generation capacity.

A Track Record of Delivering Large-Scale Solar Projects

Before joining Solar Proponent, Alan Stringer served as vice president of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) at First Solar, where he managed approximately $7 billion in solar project execution. His tenure demonstrated his ability to optimize complex construction operations while maintaining rigorous cost controls and safety standards. Most recently, he held the position of chief technical officer at Ceiba Energy Management, further solidifying his credentials in the renewable energy space. Stringer’s expertise in EPC operations, particularly his implementation of risk-based design and construction methodologies, positions him to streamline Solar Proponent’s operational execution.

Strategic Backing and Leadership Depth

The company’s expansion is supported by prominent investment firms, including EnCap Investments, a major equity provider to the independent U.S. energy sector. Additional investors include Yorktown Partners, Mercuria Energy, and SolarPro management. Jim Hughes, Managing Partner at EnCap Energy Transition and former CEO of First Solar, serves as a board adviser and emphasized Stringer’s transformational impact on EPC operations through cost reduction and safety improvements.

Building a Diverse Development Team

Complementing Stringer’s appointment, Solar Proponent has finalized the assembly of its development team under Chief Development Officer Jeffrey Sabins. The team composition prioritizes diversity and draws talent from leading renewable energy companies with deep familiarity in ERCOT solar development. This staffing maturity signals the company’s readiness to execute a substantial portfolio of utility-scale solar projects. According to Tim Rebhorn, Managing Partner at EnCap Energy Transition and chairman of Solar Proponent’s board, the organization now possesses comprehensive expertise across the entire solar development and construction spectrum.

Positioning for Growth in the ERCOT Market

With Alan Stringer leading operational strategy, Solar Proponent is well-positioned to capitalize on Texas’s renewable energy transition. ERCOT’s grid is increasingly shifting toward diverse, lower-carbon energy sources, creating significant opportunities for large-scale solar deployment. The combination of experienced leadership, seasoned technical teams, and robust capital backing establishes Solar Proponent as a competitive player in utility-scale solar development for the coming years.
