Garmin Partners with Dexcom to Bring Real-Time Glucose Monitoring Directly to Your Wrist

Managing diabetes just got smarter. Garmin and Dexcom have partnered to integrate continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data directly into Garmin smartwatches and cycling computers, allowing people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes to track their glucose levels without constantly checking their phones.

What This Means for Daily Glucose Tracking

The new Dexcom Connect IQ apps transform how users monitor their health throughout the day. Simply glance at your Garmin smartwatch to see your current glucose reading, trends, and a 3-hour history – all without reaching for your smartphone. Whether you’re at work, at home, or running errands, having this data on your wrist eliminates the friction of manual monitoring.

Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales, emphasized the practical benefit: “Users can see which way their glucose levels are trending without taking their phone out, and they can do this even while working out when glucose fluctuates most rapidly.”

The Game-Changer for Athletes and Active Users

For people with diabetes who enjoy fitness, this integration is particularly powerful. During workouts – whether running, cycling, or other activities – athletes can now view both their glucose levels and performance metrics simultaneously on compatible Garmin Edge cycling computers or smartwatches. This dual-view capability means you can adjust your activity intensity in real-time based on your glucose trends, all without interrupting your workout flow.

The ability to monitor glucose alongside heart rate, pace, and power data creates a more complete picture of how your body responds to exercise, enabling better training decisions.

Technical Achievement: A Connected CGM Ecosystem

From a technology standpoint, this collaboration marks a significant milestone. Jake Leach, Dexcom’s chief technology officer, noted that “Garmin is our first partner to connect to Dexcom G6 through our new real-time API, showcasing the value of integrated CGM and further solidifying Dexcom G6 as the most connected CGM available.”

This real-time API integration demonstrates how wearable technology and health monitoring can converge. By connecting through Dexcom’s open platform, Garmin has set a precedent for how smartwatch manufacturers can meaningfully integrate health data into their ecosystems.

Availability and Device Support

The Dexcom Connect IQ apps are now available for download from the Connect IQ Store for U.S. customers across a broad range of Garmin devices, including the fēnix series, vívoactive series, Venu series, Forerunner lineup, and Edge cycling computers. Additional device compatibility is coming soon.

The integration requires that your smartphone maintains a Bluetooth connection to both your Dexcom G6 sensor and your Garmin device for seamless data syncing.

This partnership represents a meaningful step forward in chronic disease management, blending fitness tracking with personalized health data – exactly what modern diabetes management demands.
