Zhuangzi said, “Those with deep desires have shallow understanding of the heavenly secrets,” not to deny desire, but to remind people: when the inner self is driven by strong utilitarianism and obsession, it becomes easy to distort the view of the world, leaving only calculations of personal利益, and losing understanding of the essence of things. Truly discerning people are not without principles, but are not bound by their principles and emotions. They can adjust themselves in the face of facts and maintain a distance between desire and reason. On a larger scale, it means being able to distinguish good from evil and right from wrong; on a smaller scale, it means knowing what conditions are necessary for success and what kind of people are trustworthy. The so-called high level of enlightenment is probably not about knowing more, but about gradually reducing偏执 and greed amid complexity, making judgment increasingly close to the truth.
