What is USDT?

USDT (Tether) is a stablecoin issued by Tether Inc., designed to address the high volatility of cryptocurrency prices, providing users with a relatively stable medium of exchange and store of value.

Core Features of USDT

- Pegged to the US Dollar: Tether claims that for every 1 USDT issued, there is 1 USD held in reserve in a bank account (Note: the transparency and auditing of reserves have previously been controversial).
- Multi-Chain Issuance: Available on multiple blockchains, including Ethereum (ERC-20), TRON (TRC-20), Tron, Bitcoin Cash (SLP), etc. Transfer fees and speeds vary across different chains.
- Wide Usage: Commonly used for “hedging” in cryptocurrency trading (when the market declines, users convert cryptocurrencies to USDT to hedge risk), cross-border transfers, and as collateral in decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystems.
