Indonesia's bilateral trade deal with the United States has just been signed by Prabowo in Washington.
What does Indonesia get?
- Indonesia's export tariffs to the US decrease from a threatening 32% to 19% → more competitive for palm oil, textiles, furniture, apparel ( with partial exemption for CPO).
- $38.4 billion MoU including several joint ventures in critical minerals ( nickel, bauxite), oilfield recovery
- Pertamina-Halliburton, and potential semiconductor technology transfer.
- US commitment to help supply chain resilience & long-term investments ( even though still in the MoU stage).
- Diplomacy: Prabowo receives the 'Board of Peace' spotlight, strengthening geopolitical position amid US-China rivalry.
