Abstract generation in progress

South Korean battery manufacturer Samsung SDI announced a breakthrough in extending the lifespan and improving the safety of lithium metal batteries, potentially paving the way for the commercialization of its next-generation products. Samsung SDI stated that the company, in collaboration with Columbia University, has developed a fluorine-based gel polymer electrolyte that effectively suppresses the formation of dendrites, a key factor that causes long-term damage to lithium metal battery performance. Lithium metal batteries currently have the highest energy density among existing battery technologies, exceeding traditional NCA lithium-ion batteries by more than 1.6 times. However, their commercialization has been hindered by their short charge-discharge cycle life, typically only a few dozen cycles. (Cailian Press)
