  • Vitalik Buterin proposed four ways to improve Ethereum’s quantum resistance.
  • The roadmap includes research, hybrid approaches, and risk measurement tools to inform future network security upgrades.

The co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, has outlined four specific upgrades. These are to make Ethereum more resilient to the future threat of quantum computing. He has made this roadmap public and has mentioned some technical areas that need long-term planning and coordination of research. Buterin warned that advanced quantum computers developed in the future may break the current elliptic curve cryptography that secures user accounts. He has asked developers to start planning before quantum computers can perform practical attacks.

Now, the quantum resistance roadmap.

Today, four things in Ethereum are quantum-vulnerable:

* consensus-layer BLS signatures
* data availability (KZG commitments+proofs)
* EOA signatures (ECDSA)
* Application-layer ZK proofs (KZG or groth16)

We can tackle these step by step:…

First, Buterin proposed the investigation of quantum-resistant signature schemes that are compatible with Ethereum’s execution environment. The signature schemes should be efficient for verification and should not be susceptible to attacks by large-scale quantum computers. Second, he proposed the development of post-quantum key exchange algorithms for securing communications between validators and peers. Third, Buterin proposed the use of hybrid cryptographic models that can combine classical algorithms and post-quantum primitives during transitional phases. The hybrid models would offer backward compatibility while providing improved security guarantees at various layers of protocols. Fourth, he suggested the development of formal risk assessment tools to estimate quantum vulnerability for various components of Ethereum’s infrastructure.

He said that the use of measurable benchmarks would help developers prioritize upgrades based on objective security thresholds. Buterin said that proactive planning enables smoother integration without affecting decentralized applications and user wallets.

Community Response and Long-Term Security Planning

The Ethereum community has recognized the presence of quantum computing as a long-term security issue. AAlthough experts still consider quantum attacks to be in their infancy, developers are accelerating efforts to prepare for future risks. Analysts observe that early planning builds confidence among institutional players when assessing blockchain security standards. Researchers are currently testing lattice-based, hash-based, and multivariate signature schemes for Ethereum.

However, developers will need to implement the process with precision. They will achieve this through performance testing that validates scalability across smart contracts and decentralized finance platforms. Upgrades on the network will need to strike a balance between improved security and the efficiency of transactions, as well as resource utilization by validators. Thorough auditing and formal verification will be involved in any migration to quantum-resistant cryptographic modules. Industry analysts believe that open planning can help solidify Ethereum’s position as a robust programmable blockchain platform.

The timeline will be driven by research validation, tooling readiness, and developer consensus. Buterin’s proposal positions the resistance to quantum attacks as an engineering problem that requires collective effort from academic and industry researchers.

Quantum computing impacts the security of encrypted wallets? Research suggests post-quantum cryptography may force trading platforms to rebuild wallet systems

With the development of quantum computing technology, blockchain security faces challenges. Currently, mainstream layered deterministic wallets may become ineffective in post-quantum cryptography, forcing custodial institutions to reconstruct their security models. Researchers have proposed new wallet architecture prototypes to adapt to the post-quantum environment, maintain private key security, and generate new public keys to ensure system stability.

The story of Ethereum is being rewritten: when will the next revolution come as L1 zkEVM becomes final?

Written by: imToken From a purely intuitive perspective, since 2025, the update frequency of the Ethereum core developer community has been exceptionally intense. From the Fusaka upgrade, to Glamsterdam, and to long-term plans over the next three years focusing on kEVM, quantum-resistant cryptography, Gas Limit, and other topics, Ethereum has released multiple roadmap documents covering three to five years in just a few months. This pace itself is a signal. If you carefully read the latest roadmap, you'll find a clearer and more aggressive direction emerging: Ethereum is transforming itself into a verifiable computer, and the ultimate goal of this path is L1 zkEVM. 1. ETH Zurich Practical Test of AI Agent Blockchain Consensus Ability: Success Rate Only 41.6%

The ETH Zurich research team tested the Byzantine consensus capability of LLM Agents and found that even without malicious nodes, the effective consensus rate was only 41.6%. As the number of nodes increases, reaching agreement becomes more difficult, and the situation worsens further with the addition of malicious nodes. The study concludes that current LLM Agents are not yet reliable for secure consensus, and decentralized deployment should be approached with caution.
