# An Old Middle School Classmate
I hadn't been in touch with a middle school classmate in years. He said he was coming to town for some business, so I picked him up at the station and took him out for dinner.
After dinner, he suggested organizing a karaoke night with our old classmates to have some fun.
I said I had something to do that evening. He said there's no way my business would take all night—he'd take the classmates to sing first, and I could join him after I finished. I could come over later.
I said sure, go ahead and sing, but I might not be able to make it since I'd probably be done late.
Around midnight, he sent me the address and karaoke room number. I checked the time and texted back saying it was too late and I wasn't coming.
He immediately called me, saying I was standing him up. He said he came all the way from another city, and as the host, I wasn't being respectful—I wasn't even showing up. Since I wasn't coming, I should transfer him 2,000 yuan to cover the bill.
I thought he was drunk and told him not to joke around. I said they should just have fun, and I'd treat everyone another time.
I hung up, and he immediately sent another message saying he wasn't joking.
I pointed out: This karaoke thing—I said I had other plans from the start and wasn't going. You were the one who decided to organize it yourself. I didn't arrange it.
He said it didn't matter. The event was organized under my name, so I absolutely had to pay the bill. I blocked him immediately.
I've noticed that people with poor character all share one trait: they don't know how to appreciate kindness.
