# Six Years Ago, My E-bike Battery Was Stolen

Six years ago, the battery of my old e-bike, which I had ridden for three years, was stolen. I checked the security footage with the property management but couldn't find out who took it. I sold the empty e-bike shell at a low price and started commuting by bike-sharing.

A month later, my neighbor, Auntie Yang, stopped me downstairs and suddenly knelt down in front of me. She pleaded with me, saying: You stole my battery. It exploded while I was charging it at home. My whole family is now in the hospital. Can you give me the invoice for this e-bike battery to help save my family?

While crying and speaking unclearly, she said: Young man, I'm sorry to you, Auntie. I make a living collecting and selling scrap materials. That day, after collecting trash from your building's unit, I became possessed by greed and took your battery home intending to use it myself. When I was charging it at home, your battery suddenly exploded due to quality issues, seriously injuring both my son and my husband. Auntie isn't asking you to take responsibility. I'm hoping you can give me the invoice from when you bought the e-bike. After all, this is a battery problem, and Auntie will find the manufacturer. You're also a victim—how could Auntie blame you?

Looking at her state, I felt a bit sympathetic and was about to agree when I noticed some familiar neighbors gathered around, subtly shaking their heads at me. I instinctively waved my hand in refusal: Auntie, you've got the wrong person. I don't have an e-bike. I ride bike-sharing for my commute.

Upon hearing this, she stared at me in disbelief and tried to grab me, but I ignored her and walked toward the nearest blue bike nearby, scanned the lock, and rode away.

On the way, I forwarded the details of today's incident to my childhood friend and asked for his opinion. He said: Are you crazy? You actually wanted to give her the invoice and let her find the manufacturer? You should really thank that older brother who shook his head at you. If you had agreed to give her the invoice, you would have been doomed.

After my childhood friend explained the details to me, the more I listened, the more horrified I became. It turned out this auntie wasn't nearly as kind-hearted as she claimed to be.
