When should you move a trade to breakeven?

Stop losses should only move in the direction of the trade, never against the opening direction (as this increases risk).

Your trading system must have a rule for moving trades to breakeven. For long positions, the stop loss should move to a few points above the entry point (or for short positions, a few points below the entry point).

The benefit of this is that if price suddenly starts moving against us and returns to the entry point, we can close the position without a loss, and may even cover trading costs like commissions.

However, there is a drawback—if we move the stop loss too early, we might miss the opportunity to let profits grow.

The best approach is to establish a rule for moving to breakeven and follow it strictly to avoid emotional fluctuations.
