On the 22nd local time, the Iranian armed forces issued a statement saying that if U.S. President Trump’s threat to attack Iranian power plants is carried out, Iran will immediately take four “punitive” measures, including a full closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement said that Iran has repeatedly stated that the Strait of Hormuz is only closed to enemies and “harmful passage,” and has not been fully sealed. It is currently under Iran’s “intelligent control.” “Within a specific framework of rules, harmless passage continues to be guaranteed under the conditions of safeguarding our security and interests.”

The statement warned that if the U.S. threat to attack Iranian power plants is implemented, Iran will immediately take four “punitive” measures: Full closure of the Strait of Hormuz until Iran’s damaged power facilities are rebuilt; large-scale strikes on all Israeli power facilities, energy, and communication infrastructure; complete destruction of all U.S.-owned companies in the Middle East; and all countries in the region with U.S. military bases will have their power facilities become legitimate targets.

The statement said, “If the enemy damages our power facilities, we will defend national interests at all costs and launch continuous destruction of the above targets.”

On the evening of the 21st, Trump posted on social media demanding Iran open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, or else he will strike and destroy “various power plants” in Iran.
