I was surprised when I saw the recent report that Vitalik Buterin's estimated net worth exceeds $800 million. Since he's a co-founder of Ethereum, that's probably expected, but most of his assets come from ETH holdings.
Currently, Buterin owns about 245,278 ETH, which is worth nearly $830 million. It seems his holdings are based on the large allocations he received during the Ethereum launch in 2015. When ETH surpassed $3,000 in 2021, he temporarily became a billionaire.
Interestingly, over the years, Buterin's ETH holdings have decreased. This is apparently due to sales and the network's inflation design, but he has stated that he still holds more than 0.9% of the total supply. Compared to other large ETH holders, he's considered an unusual individual holder.
He also owns non-ETH tokens like KNCL, WETH, and DEGEN, so Buterin's asset portfolio is diversified across the entire crypto space. Some analyses suggest his actual net worth could be higher than this estimated amount.
