Trump is saying some interesting things. He argues that to combat fake news, there should be more active competition among television networks. In other words, by consolidating and partnering within the media industry, the competitive environment can be improved, which in turn would enhance the quality of reporting.
According to Jin10's report, Trump supports merger proposals like Nexstar and Tegna. His thinking is that if such large deals are realized, competition among networks will be invigorated, ultimately helping to address the fake news problem.
What’s particularly interesting is that those opposing these deals might not yet understand their benefits. But Trump is confident that, in the future, everyone will recognize the validity of this reasoning. He seems that sure of it.
Using media competition to solve the fake news issue is quite a bold approach. His strong push for the swift completion of these deals also shows how serious he is. It will be worth watching how the media industry’s restructuring unfolds.
