I just saw some interesting news from the gold and crypto markets. Elemental Royalty, a publicly traded gold company, has become the first entity to allow shareholders to receive dividends in the form of XAUT — tokenized gold. This truly marks a significant milestone.
Instead of traditional cash payments, publicly traded gold investors can now choose to receive gold bars in digital token form. Each XAUT token corresponds to a specific amount of gold stored in secure vaults. This combines the stability of physical assets with the flexibility of digital transactions.
Looking broader, this is not an isolated phenomenon. The tokenization of the gold market has seen considerable growth recently. Alongside Tether’s XAUT, there’s Paxos’ PAXG and other similar products. It’s clear that organizations are increasingly recognizing the value of connecting traditional commodities with blockchain infrastructure.
What caught my attention is that this company is demonstrating that public gold investment isn’t just about buying physical gold or mining company stocks. It can also be about owning tokenized assets, with much higher convenience. No need to worry about secure vaults, transportation, or complicated paperwork.
Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, called this a major step forward for the industry. And it’s true — this addresses longstanding issues in integrating gold into the modern financial system. Shareholders gain flexibility while maintaining the integrity of real assets.
I see this trend potentially opening up other possibilities. If gold can be tokenized to pay dividends, why not other resource companies? Or even other firms reconsider how they distribute value to shareholders. Dividends don’t always have to be cash.
This is a real-world example of how blockchain isn’t just useful for speculative trading or DeFi. The technology is gradually penetrating traditional corporate financial mechanisms. Public gold investment through tokenization could expand access to tech-friendly investors who previously might not feel comfortable with physical gold.
If Elemental Royalty succeeds with this model, I predict there will be imitators. This could be the beginning of a new way to view public gold investment and other real assets within the digital finance world.
