If you're playing with altcoins and they don't rise, just hold on. How you lose money in a bull run is by constantly switching positions when you see other coins rise but yours don't, and in the end, you miss out on most of the rise and end up holding a bunch of knives. Currently, the dominance of BTC is still high, and there is still a lot of room for imagination in altcoins as a whole.
