There is life, there is death. Sooner or later, everyone will face death. While we are still alive, we can deal with death in two ways: ignore it, or face our own death, reduce the pain that death may bring by clear thinking about death. However, neither of these methods can truly overcome death.
As a Buddhist, I consider death to be a normal process. As long as I am still living on this earth, the fact of death will inevitably occur. After knowing that I cannot escape death, there is nothing to worry about. I prefer to see death as the need to change into new clothes when old ones are worn out, rather than an end. However, death is unpredictable: we do not know when or how we will die. Therefore, it is necessary for us to make some preparations before death truly occurs.
Most of us naturally hope to die peacefully, but if our lives are full of violence, and if our minds are always controlled by emotions such as anger, obsession, or fear, then it is obviously impossible for us to hope for a peaceful death. Therefore, if we hope to die well, we must learn how to live well: if we hope to die peacefully, we must cultivate peace in our hearts and daily lives.
As you will read in this book, from the perspective of Buddhism, the actual experience of death is very important. Although how we are reborn and where we are reborn mostly depends on karma, the state of mind at the moment of death can still influence the quality of the next life. Therefore, at the moment of death, despite accumulating various types of karma, as long as we strive to cultivate a positive mindset, we can still strengthen and inspire good karma, leading to a happy cycle of rebirth.
At the moment of death, the deepest and most beneficial inner experiences can also arise. Through repeated contemplation of the dying process in meditation, an accomplished meditator can attain profound realizations through their actual death. This is why the old monks often pass away in meditation. Their bodies often take a long time to decay after being declared dead by modern medicine, symbolizing their spiritual accomplishments.
To help others die peacefully is just as important as preparing for one's own death. Each of us is born alone and helpless, and without care and nurturing, we would not survive. Just as we cannot help ourselves at birth, we must do everything possible to relieve the pain and anxiety of those who are dying, helping them to die peacefully and at ease.
The most important thing is to avoid making the dying person's mind more disturbed. Our primary goal in helping the dying is to make them peaceful, and there are many ways to do so. Dying people familiar with meditation methods can be encouraged and inspired if reminded, but if we can restore the dying person's confidence in a friendly tone, even the most ordinary person can generate a peaceful and calm state of mind.#GT新年屡破新高,接下来到多少? #市场回暖,你买什么? #ADA热度上升,你怎么看?
