SafeMoon 前執行長挪用逾 900 萬美元，遭判 100 個月徒刑並沒收資產，昔日迷因幣神話正式落幕。
美國紐約東區檢察官辦公室周二宣布，SafeMoon 前執行長、現年 29 歲的 Braden John Karony 為一己私利，詐取投資人錢財奢靡度日，被判處 100 個月（約 8 年 4 個月）有期徒刑。
檢察官指出，Braden John Karony 雖然對外宣稱要帶領投資人「安全地飛向月球（SafeMoon）」，私底下卻將投資人視為提款機。根據調查，他從公司竊取超過 900 萬美元的數位資產，用於購買猶他州一處價值 220 萬美元的房產、奧迪 R8 超跑、特斯拉，以及一輛要價不斐的訂製 Ford F-550 皮卡。
除了入獄服刑 8 年之外，法院還下令沒收 Braden John Karony 約 750 萬美元的不法所得及兩處房產。 FBI 紐約辦事處助理處長 James Barnacle 在聲明中指出：「Braden John Karony 不僅濫用執行長職權，更背叛了投資人的信任，從公司竊取超過 900 萬美元的數位資產來維持奢靡生活。」
今年 5 月，聯邦陪審團裁定 Braden John Karony 共謀證券詐欺、電信詐欺及洗錢罪名成立。
SafeMoon LLC 於 2021 年發行名為 SafeMoon 的加密貨幣，市值一度超過 80 億美元市值，備受散戶追捧，而最吸引投資人的機制就是獨特的「交易稅」，持有人只要轉帳或買賣代幣，就會被扣除 10% 的稅款，其中 5% 回饋持有者、剩餘 5% 注入流動性池。
然而，檢方指出這一切純屬騙局。 Braden John Karony 與其同夥實際上保留了對流動性池的控制權，並在未告知投資人的情況下，挪用了數百萬美元的資金作為己用。
這起案件的另外 2 名核心人物也面臨法律制裁。前技術長（CTO）Thomas Smith 已於 2025 年 2 月認罪，目前正在等待判刑；而另一名共犯 Kyle Nagy 目前依然在逃，美國司法單位持續追緝中。
