How to Keep Your Mentors and Benefactors

If a benefactor has taken you under their wing, you must find ways to stay close to them. However, if a benefactor at a much higher level than you has helped you, and they lack nothing, or what they lack is beyond what someone at your level can provide, don't think the matter is settled. Remember this one strategy: every six months, proactively report your progress to your benefactor. On one hand, this expresses your gratitude to them; on the other hand, it lets them find a sense of accomplishment in you. They will feel that your improvement is because of their mentorship, and it's precisely because of their help that you are where you are today. The next time you ask for their assistance, they'll be much more likely to agree. To put it bluntly, once people reach a certain level of success, they begin to pursue a sense of achievement. You're not just someone they've helped—you become their masterpiece that they personally shaped and refined.
