According to Cointelegraph, Italy’s central bank urged the EU on May 5 to consider building a tokenized version of the SEPA payment system to keep pace with financial innovation. SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) aims to standardize cross-border payments within the eurozone. The central bank believes the EU should evaluate upgrade pathways for its existing payment infrastructure as tokenization and blockchain-based payments continue to develop.
