SoftBank Group issues 10-year US dollar bonds with a record-high coupon rate of 8.5%

SoftBank Group agrees to pay its highest-ever interest rate on dollar bonds, highlighting concerns over the Japanese conglomerate’s large-scale investments in artificial intelligence (AI). According to the company’s statement, SoftBank Group issued $1.5 billion and €1.75 billion ($2.1 billion) in bonds on Wednesday, with part of the proceeds used to repay bridge loans related to its investment in U.S. tech company OpenAI. The 10-year dollar bonds issued carry a coupon rate of 8.5%, data shows, setting a record for the highest yield the company has offered on dollar-denominated bonds, surpassing the previous high set in October last year.
