Police in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, launched a large-scale operation to arrest a hundred drug dealers.

At least 20 people were killed and 56 were arrested. This operation is part of a “containment operation” aimed at curbing the expansion of the “Red Command” gang. Drug traffickers responded with gunfire and set up burning barricades, with thick smoke visible in many parts of the city. According to the police, about 100 criminals have been issued arrest warrants, 30 of whom are from the northern state of Para.
