The Central Bank of Indonesia (Bank Indonesia) aims to issue a digital Rupiah by 2030, starting trials from 2025. The initial phase will focus on digital securities, monetary operations, and advanced cryptocurrency features, before expanding to broader financial transactions.

According to Governor Perry Warjiyo, the implementation roadmap extends until 2028, aiming to integrate distributed ledger technology (DLT) and asset tokenization features into the national currency system. This initiative is expected to help Indonesia become a pioneer in digital financial innovation while enhancing the efficiency and transparency of the market.

“We will issue securities of Bank Indonesia in digital form — digital Rupiah backed by government bonds, Indonesia's national stablecoin version.” — Perry Warjiyo.
