On November 18, according to Dlnews, Brazilian federal lawmaker Chrisóstomo de Moura introduced a bill aimed at giving the court the power to freeze or confiscate the cryptocurrency assets of cyber suspects.
The bill allows judges to take preventive measures, either on their own initiative or at the request of prosecutors, when dealing with fraud offences, including freezing cryptocurrency wallets and traditional financial assets. The parliamentarian said that these preventive measures will help protect society and provide a powerful tool in the fight against fraud.
The bill also proposes the establishment of a “National Compensation Fund for Victims of Fraud” to provide immediate assistance to victims and overcome the slow civil compensation process. In addition, lawmakers called for harsher penalties for criminals in cyberspace, including preventive detention and restrictions on citizens' access to cryptocurrency trading platforms used for criminal activities. The bill is currently under review by the Committee, and it is expected that it will take some time to complete the final analysis.
