OpenAI hires former UK Chancellor to lead the "Stargate" global expansion plan

Golden Finance reports that, according to the Financial Times of the UK, OpenAI has hired former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne to lead the global development of the “Stargate” project. George Osborne will serve as Head of OpenAI for Countries. The project is an overseas expansion of the $500 billion “Stargate” plan, aimed at building data centers in the United States. OpenAI’s appointment of Osborne follows the recent move by its competitor Anthropic, which in October appointed former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as an advisor. In April, it was reported that OpenAI was considering expanding the “Stargate” plan beyond the US, and a month later officially launched OpenAI for Countries. Since then, OpenAI has reached agreements with the UK and the UAE, and stated that it is in negotiations with 50 countries to assist in developing “Sovereign AI.”
