Deputy Director of the SEC's Corporate Finance Division, Cicely LaMothe, announces retirement

Odaily Planet Daily News: The Deputy Director of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Corporate Finance Division, Cicely LaMothe, announced her retirement. Over the past year, she has played an important role in cryptocurrency regulation, including issuing clarifications that Meme coins are not securities and explaining the SEC’s stance on staking activities. LaMothe joined the SEC in 2002 and has been involved in drafting key policies such as registration filing procedures. Her departure coincides with the SEC’s second year of adopting a more friendly approach toward the crypto industry. During this period, the SEC has approved listing standards for some crypto asset-related ETFs, revoked multiple enforcement cases against well-known crypto companies, and advanced “Project Crypto” to update the digital asset regulatory framework. Additionally, the SEC confirmed that Nekia Hackworth Jones, Deputy Director of Enforcement in the Southeastern District, completed her term at the end of December.
