Taiwan-US tariffs have just been settled, and Trump is again engaging in a tariff war with Europe: if the Greenland deal is not finalized, a 25% tariff will be imposed.

U.S. President Donald J. Trump recently issued a strong statement via social media, accusing Denmark and several European countries of benefiting from U.S. security and trade arrangements for a long time without paying the corresponding price. In the statement, Trump said that the U.S. has not imposed tariffs on Denmark and many EU countries for years, which is equivalent to providing subsidies to them. He announced that starting from February, a 10% tariff will be imposed on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland. If an agreement on the Greenland deal is not reached, the tariff will rise to 25% in June.

Tariff Schedule: 10% in February, rising to 25% in June

Trump announced that from February 1, 2026, the United States will impose a comprehensive 10% tariff on goods imported from the following countries: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland.

He further pointed out that if the relevant countries do not reach a full and comprehensive agreement on the Greenland deal, the tariffs will be increased to 25% on June 1, 2026, and will continue to be levied until the deal is completed.

Golden Dome Defense System as the Core Reason

In his post, Trump reiterated his advocacy for the Golden Dome modernization defense system, emphasizing that the U.S. is investing hundreds of billions of dollars into related security programs, which may even cover Canada’s defense needs. He noted that the system’s maximum effectiveness depends on geographic positioning and coverage, and if Greenland is not included, the overall defense benefits will be significantly reduced. Therefore, securing Greenland is particularly important for the U.S.
