This article presents five on-chain games to watch in January 2024. The author of the article, WASD, not only shared the basic information of the game, but also mentioned the latest developments and upcoming events of each. These games include Sky Strife, Dark Forest Arena, Tarochi, Force Prime Heroes, and Aether Sands, showcasing the vibrancy and diversity of the on-chain gaming landscape.

January will be a big month for on-chain gaming, with plenty of new products, updates, events, and playtests coming out over the next 30 days.

In this article, I’m going to give you a preview of what’s to come by introducing five of my most anticipated games, so let’s get started!

Sky Strife

Introduction

Sky Strife is a turn-based real-time strategy (RTS) game built in MUD by Lattice.

In Sky Strife, you can participate in PVP matches for 2 to 4 players, with the goal of destroying other players’ bases while protecting your own from attacks.

Upcoming progress of the project

Sky Strife is about to begin its next continuous playtest (Season 0.1), which will run on the Redstone Holesky Testnet from January 8-30.

Although the details of the season’s structure have not yet been officially released, it is likely that, as before, the Lattice team will most likely create freerolls multiple times a day during this period.

However, what we can be sure of is that players who participate in the aforementioned tournaments will be able to earn Orbs

Orbs is an ERC-20 Token issued as a tournament reward that can be used to create games between freerolls.

In addition, users will be able to mint new Season Pass Non-fungible Tokens, giving their holders access to exclusive matches, maps, and the ability to launch Allowlist games.

I had a lot of fun in Sky Strife Season 0, so I can’t wait to play Season 0.1.

Dark Forest Arena

一览1月份值得关注的5款游戏

Introduction

Dark Forest Arena is a Dark Forest community event hosted by dfDAO on the Gnosis chain.

Dark Forest is an MMO game in which players compete for domination of the galaxy covered by zk-SNARKs by conquering planets, scoring points, and increasing their in-game rankings.

Progress of the project

The latest race introduced by Dark Forest is the “speed round”, where the player’s goal is to capture the target planet in the shortest time possible.

The event starts on December 31 and will run for two weeks, with prizes awarded to the player with the highest score (i.e., the fastest time to catch).

I think it’s a great way to rekindle user interest in Dark Forest and showcase the game to players like me who weren’t there in its heyday.

I haven’t made an official attempt yet, and while I’m almost certainly not going to win, I’m still eager to join the tournament (or rather, the arena).

Tarochi

Introduction

Tarochi is an on-chain RPG game developed by Paima Studios using the Paima engine on XAI.

This game has similarities with Pokémon in that players can explore, complete quests, fight, and catch monsters.

Progress of the project

Paima plans to hold a beta test of the latest version of the game (Season 1) in January.

This event will be open to members of their Discord server, so if you haven’t already, you should join Discord. Season 1 will introduce several new features, including PVP battles (battles are currently PVE) and tradable gold currency.

In addition, players will be able to trade their game status.

Overall, I’m very excited about the first season and want to try out these new features as well.

I think the introduction of PVP would make the battles more engaging, and I’m curious to see what the player state trading market looks like.

Force Prime Heroes

Introduction

Force Prime Heroes is a fantasy game built by Force Prime using Dojo and Unity.

Heroes was created during the recent Dojo Holiday Game Jam Hacker and is set in a land called Arcanus, where players are tasked with defeating a creature known as “The Bone Dragon.”

To do this, they will collect treasure chests and engage in PVE battles by deploying five different types of creatures, i.e. units.

Progress of the project

Although the client is currently available for download and play on Windows, Force Prime Heroes plans to release a web version at some time.

The team will also host a tournament later this month, where players can compete to win prizes and influence.

I’m not a Windows user, so I haven’t had a chance to try out Heroes yet.

Either way, I’m excited about the upcoming web games and tournaments and look forward to getting my hands on the game for the first time.

Aether Sands

Introduction

Aether Sands is an open-world game developed by k 0 Labs using MUD.

Aether Sands is set in a post-apocalyptic world where you’ll need to rebuild your civilization by planting and defending a tree known as the Temple.

You’ll do this by extracting and managing resources like water and using machines called Harvesters.

Progress of the project

Aether Sands held its first public beta last month and will begin its second beta in mid-January.

Although the first public test lasted about 24 hours, we don’t know too many details about the test.

But based on what I know about the game, I’m looking forward to playing Aether Sands.

It reminds me of Primodium, and the open-world genre is one of my favorite genres in off-chain gaming.

New year, good start

As you can see, January is going to be an exciting, energetic month for us on-chain gamers.

New releases for Sky Strife, Tarochi, Force Prime Heroes, and Aether Sands are coming soon, while the Dark Forest arena arena is also live and playable!

There will definitely be more releases in the coming weeks. This rapidly evolving level is not only interesting for all of us, but also a super bullish signal for the future of this space.

All in all, it’s going to be a very big year for on-chain gaming.
