ETH Foundation AMA: The most valuable transactions will continue to occur on the Ethereum Mainnet, while rollup will expand user adoption.

BlockBeats News, on September 5th, Dankrad Feist, a core researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, responded to the question of ‘Where does the value of ETH lie today? Has the rollup ecosystem ‘overridden’ ETH and made it lose its value?’ during the 12th AMA of the Ethereum Foundation, stating, ‘Ethereum is building a financial platform that will be the most neutral platform to date. It allows the issuance of financial assets, allows the trading of these assets, and can create new financial products based on them without permission, all of which are very valuable activities. It is possible to capture value from it, but the mechanism for achieving this is not yet clear. I still believe it will be some kind of fee mechanism - on the rollup roadmap, I still believe that Ethereum L1 will become the crossroads between all these subdomains, and many very valuable activities will continue to take place on it, which will generate valuable fees. (To achieve this, a considerable number of L1 extensions are needed) Personally, I think it would be best if we focus on building a value-generating ecosystem on Ethereum, and I believe that value capture will eventually happen naturally. This does not mean that I am not considering it, but it is a big mistake to focus on it when the value generation part is still lacking. If we have a diversified rollup ecosystem that provides interesting applications to the world, I would consider that a success, but it would be an even greater success if this ecosystem also makes ETH assets more valuable. I know many people think that a rollup-centric roadmap will take away fee income and MEV from Ethereum and that rollups might eventually become parasites on Ethereum. I don’t think this is true. The highest-value transactions will continue to occur on Ethereum L1, while rollups will expand the cake by providing enough space for users to trade on Ethereum. This relationship will be symbiotic.’
