Global EV Battery Separator Shipments Rise 5.9% YoY in Jan-Feb 2026

GateNews

Gate News message, April 15 — Global shipments of battery separators for electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and hybrids (HEVs) reached approximately 2.056 billion square meters in January-February 2026, up 5.9% year-over-year, according to SNE Research. Battery separators are critical components in lithium-ion batteries that physically separate positive and negative electrodes while allowing lithium-ion movement.

Markets outside China recorded 802 million square meters during the same period, posting a 27.8% year-over-year increase and outpacing overall global growth.

SEMCORP maintained its market-leading position with 625 million square meters, up 4% year-over-year. Chinese companies continued to dominate with over 90% market share; by Q4 2025, their share reached approximately 91.5%, while Japanese and South Korean firms held around 5% and 3% respectively.

SNE Research noted that demand for battery separators in energy storage systems (ESS) is growing faster than in EVs, driven by grid stabilization and renewable energy expansion. The firm added that the separator market is undergoing a structural shift from EV-centric to ESS-inclusive demand, with suppliers needing to diversify product portfolios and expand ESS customer bases to remain competitive.
