Israeli forces carried out an airstrike on Beirut, killing the nephew of Hezbollah leader Qasim.

Gate News message: On April 9, the Israeli military said Thursday that during a nighttime strike on Beirut, it killed the nephew of Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem, supported by Iran—not Naim Qassem himself.

Naim Qassem has held a senior position in Hezbollah for more than 30 years and formally became the group’s new leader in 2024. In 2024, with U.S. support, Israel and Hezbollah reached a ceasefire agreement, ending more than a year of fighting. But afterward, Israel continued to regularly carry out attacks against targets in Lebanon that it identified as Hezbollah.

After the death of the former Iranian supreme leader, Khamenei, Hezbollah launched attacks against Israel. Since then, Israel has caused more than 1,000 deaths in Lebanon.
