Macron: Restarting military operations in the Strait of Hormuz is unrealistic; it should be resolved through negotiations with Iran

GateNews

Gate News message, April 2, French President Macron said to reporters yesterday (April 1) during his visit to Seoul that attempting to reopen the Strait of Hormuz through military means is “unrealistic.” Macron noted that such actions would take an uncertain amount of time and would put the parties involved at risk from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. “This was never an option we chose; we believe it is unrealistic,” Macron said. “We must be able to reopen this strait because it is of strategic importance for energy, fertilizer, and international trade, but this can only be achieved through negotiations with Iran.” He suggested that the first step should be to achieve a ceasefire, followed by restarting talks, and that carrying out security-assurance missions could help ensure that ships are not targeted. Macron added, “The world also cannot afford this kind of situation—Iran could decide at any time to open or close the strait.”
