Gate News message, April 24 — Naver Cloud and HanmiGlobal announced a strategic partnership on April 24 to jointly develop large-scale data center projects in Saudi Arabia and other overseas markets. Under the agreement, Naver Cloud, the cloud division of South Korean tech giant Naver, will handle infrastructure strategy and service design, while HanmiGlobal, a South Korean construction management firm, will oversee design consulting, project management, and local permitting.
Naver Cloud already operates in Saudi Arabia through a joint venture with the Saudi National Housing Corporation, which manages 70% of the country’s real estate transactions. The planned facility will support Naver’s digital twin projects in the region, including platforms for Makkah, Medina, and Jeddah that Naver won a $100 million contract to develop in 2023. Those systems map urban areas across more than 920,000 buildings to assess flood risk, optimize traffic flow, and aid urban planning. HanmiGlobal brings significant regional experience, having completed over 50 projects in the Middle East since 2007.
The partnership reflects a broader industry shift toward data localization, as cloud providers build in-country infrastructure to comply with data sovereignty regulations and secure government digital contracts.
